Scillablütenfest

Scillablütenfest

The second pattern of my „representing the 4 seasons“- series. Here comes the spring 6“ square. It is dedicated to a small spring flower, the scilla siberica. It looks very nice when it is blooming. Whole meadows are violet then. For that, every year in march the city where I live is celebrating this flower with the „scillablütenfest“. This year there won't be a "Scillablütenfest". But I am celebrating with this little square:

Skill level: easy

Material:

  • yarn of your choice (aran weight for 6“) in white (w), sand (s), light blue (lb), jeans (j), violet (v) and dark blue (db)
  • hook Nr. 5
  • scissors
  • yarn needle

Abbreviations:

  • ch – chain
  • slst – slip stitc
  • fphdc – front post half double crochet
  • fpdc – front post double crochet
  • sc - single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • fo – fasten off
  • st – stitch
  • sk - skip
  • fl – front loop
  • bl – back loop
  • sust – surface stitch

Special stitches:

  • puff: pull a long loop, *yarn over, insert hook through the indicated stitch, yarn over, pull through*, repeat from *-* two more times, yarn over, pull trough all 7 loops, ch 1 to close
  • surface stitch: series of slst worked over the surface between the indicated rounds

Note: the first stitch of a round is a standing stitch, unless something else is said.

Pattern:

1.: (v) Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from loop, slst to fl of the first sc to close circle.
Do not fo.

2.: (v) Work entire round in fl only! (ch 7, slst in fourth st from the loop, sc in next three ch, slst into fl of the next st)x 6. Slst to first slst to join and fo (6 flower blossoms)

3.: (w) The whole round is worked in bl of rd. 1 sc! (2dc in any sc)x 6. Slst to first dc. fo. (12 dc)

4.: (s) Start in any dc. (dc, ch 1)x 12. Slst to first dc. fo. (12 dc, 12 ch 1 spaces)

Now it is the right time to work a circle of sust in dark blue between rd. 1 and 2!

5.: (w) Start in any dc. (2 sc in dc; working behind the rd 4 ch 1 sp, dc into rd 3 directely below)x 12. Slst to first sc. fo. (24 sc, 12 dc)

6.: (lb) Start in first sc of the two from rd 5 directly left of a petal. (5 dc, ch 1, puff through the top of the blossom and to the next round 5 st, ch 1)x 6. Slst to first dc. fo. (30 dc, 12 ch 1, 6 puff)

7.: (j) This is the squaring round! We will be using the ch 1 spaces as well!Start at any puff: [(fpdc, ch 2, fpdc) around p= corner made, (2 dc. 2 hdc, 3 sc, fphdc around p, hdc, 2 dc) = side made, (dc, ch 2, dc) = corner made, (2 dc, hdc, fphdc around puff, 3 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc) = side made] x 2. Slst to first fpdc. fo. (13 st per side)

8.: (s) Start in any corner. [(dc, ch 2, dc) = corner made, (ch1, sk 1 st, hdc)x6, ch 1] x4. Slst to first dc. fo. (8 st and 7 ch 1 per side)

9.: (w) Start in any corner. [(2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) = corner made, (hdc into next st; dc into the skipped st from rd. 7, worked in front of ch 1 from rd. 8) x 7, hdc] x4. Slst to first hdc. fo. Weave in all ends. (19 st per side)

That's it! Have fun!
